Collection contains photocopies of letters written to Clinton Scott by western writers Walker A. Tompkins, Dudley Dean McGaughey, and William R. Cox, in which they briefly summarize their literary careers. Collection also contains photocopied annotated manuscripts of three papers: "I Remember the Wild West Weekly" by Redd Boggs, "The Golden Age of Pulps" by Allan R. Bosworth, and "Plotting the Western Story" by Walker A. Tompkins, which are histories and critiques of the western pulp genre by western pulp writers themselves. A photocopy of a magazine obituary for western artist Lorence Bjorklund is in this collection as well.

Tompkins was an author, master story teller, and Santa Barbara historian, born July 10, 1909 in Washington state's Yakima Valley. He began his writing career at age 14 and at age 21 sold his first piece of Western fiction. After a three year hitch as an overseas correspondent during World War II, he settled in Santa Barbara in 1946.
